Vegetarians and vegans are our heroes! No, not everyone is there yet, but slowly, the world is becoming more aware of the fact that industrially produced meat products are the result of extremely inhumane rearing practices, particularly veal. Meat eaters and vegans alike can agree that eating a six week old baby calf that was confined to a small, poorly lit, 2x5 box with a slotted floor for the entirety of its short life is not acceptable. Alice Walker put it best, "The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men." Not ready to be a vegetarian? How about eating only humane meats and dairy? Humane meats are produced on smaller farms, without the use of anti-biotics or hormones and best of all, the animals are allowed to roam free.
